DRAINAGE BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of tlie Christchurch Drainage Board was held laat night. Present—Mr Walter Hill (chairman), Messrs IIHolland, J. W. Beanland. J. Downe®, H. Langford, H. J. Otley, J. Richardson, S. A. Staples. J. Storry, and W. J. Walters. The Finance Committee recommended that moneys bo received on aeposit at seven days call at 3 per cent., and seven days' notico from tho Board that it was it 3 intention to ropay such moneys.—Adopted. The secretary and treasurer reported tho receipts for the month had been £553 Bs. and the expenditure £1214 19s 7d. Tho debit balance at the bank was £12,415 15s Id. Tho engineer reported that A. J. Laurence had agreed to relinquish his riffhta over tho Tennyson street drain. Ho had carefully tested tho cra.put of sewage from tho pumping station, and it closely approximated Mr Forrester's calculations, tho difference being only 52 gallons a minute. The pumping station ongineer reported that during August 808,747 tons of eewage had been pumped, an. increase over the output of August, 1915, of 123,690 tons. The rainfall during August had been 2.74 in. as against .83in in the corresponding month last year. — Adopted. The Heatbcoto County Council wrote In the matter of the expenditure of over £800 on Brittin's drain out of rates, and requested that before any large works were undertaken,' th*> Council bo notified.—Received.

It was decidcd tcr leave the matter of Mr George Hyde's application for relief from a stoppage in drainage in the hands of the engineer. Mr F. Vale was granted leave to erect a water-wheel on tho Waimairi road, under the usual conditions.

. The Woolsion Borough Conned wrote throwing the responsibility of the flooding of the Charfeworth Estate on the Board. The engineer reported that the Board was not liable, as the flooding was due to tidal waters. If anybody was to blame, the Woolsion Borough Council was the guilty party, as it could erect a small floodgate in the drain which would prevent the flooding com plained of.
