SPRING FLOWER SHOW.

Entries for the Spring Show of the Canterbury Horticultural Society closed last night, and exceeded the splendid entry of last year. The competition will bo very keen, both in the open classes and tho amateur classes. The entries in the champion single bloom classes constitute a lecord. Tho Townend Memorial trophy this year is competed for' at this show. If is for twelve distinct varieties of narcissi,\and there are nine competitors in this class.' The Baylies Cup will also bo keenly competed for. The entries in the, amateur cut bloom classes are very good, as also are~tho entries in the seedling classes. The entries of pot plants are very numerous, and. some excellent specimens will be shown. The fruit and vegetable classes nro well filled, and should provide an attractiv© display. A special feature at this Society's shows are the decorative displays. The competition in tbe&o classes will be keen, as a very "large entry has been received. In addition to tho competitive display there will be some very fine stands for exhibition only. Mr Beumelberg will stag.? over 1000 daffodils, and Mr J. Brown will show his splendid pot plants and other flowers. Messrs Nairn and Sons will also stage a very fine exhibit of flowering shrubs, narcissi, and other spring flowers, while tho magnificent bulbs from the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes's gardens at Tai Tapu will bo very much in evidence. The show will take place in the Art Gallery on Thursday and Friday next, opening at -2 p.m.. on Thursday. Exhibitors must have their exhibits staged by 11 a.m. on Thursday. The champion blooms and other flowers will be handed to the Red Cross depot for sale on Saturday for tho Red Cross Fund.
