MAIL NOTICES.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE I'RESS."
Sir, —Again 1 complain of the vagaries of the Post Office as regards incoming mails. On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, an official notice appeared , in your columns, signed by "J. G. Rule, Acting-Chief Postmaster," that a Vancouver mail was due indiristchurch on the Bth. and on Thursday an unsigned notice stated that it was due "to-morrow." On tho morrow appeared a fresh notice signed "W. T. Ward, Chief Postmaster," that the mai] was duo in on Sunday: now to-day. Monday, there appears another notice, that it will not arrive till Tuesday. These repeated repetitions of inaeniracies arc most annoying to those Who are expecting letters. Is the Post Office really as ignorant as it appears to be, or does it issue routine notices, rega'dless of actual facts? To a Derson of ordinary intelligence, it would appear that tho Post Office must have known on Wednesday night that tho mail boat could not possibly arrive in time for the mails to get to Christchurch on Friday. Why, then, did they announco that they would? Is it to display their own ignorance or to annoy the public, or both? —Yours, ctc.. F.R.C.S.
