A meeting of the Women's Section, of the Canterbury and Weat Coast Centre of. the Order of St. John and tho. New- Zealand branch .of the Red Croee Society,' wae held yesterday, Mr A. E. G Rhodes presiding. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £4961. It waa reported' that motor-amhiulanoes, stores, waggons, and repair shops were, required for the Anzacs,. and it had been.euggated that £2000 be devoted'to this purpose. ! In the meantime, the request for i motor-ambulunces, etc., was being verified. The chairman stated that it was certain ! that everything the,depot could do in the way" of supplying hospital requisites' would . bo wanted, and that very mush more would be required than had been sent forward in., the past. He expressed his thanks to Mr Fleaher for the able manner in which he bad conducted the Red Croe3 affaire in his abaor.ee. Various appreciative letters .acknowledging receipt of goods were received. v _"; ; ■ Mrs Wigram reported despatching 7 cases to Walton, 50 to the High Commissioner, with 82 cases of bandages and and 18 eases of comforts for the hospitals, ma!S in? a total 15 caaes shipped in May. \ Mrs Lavie reported that the bandage department had received a total of -118,694 articles during the month. Mrs Vernon, reported that 13.203 finished had been j received during the month, irrespective of South Canterbury goods. | Mrs H. H. Smith reported .that the sales; department had supplied £1465 worth _of material, and £131 worth of wool during I the month. Mrs Allen, of the City Branch, j reported that the work was being well done. Tho following work had been sent in since the inception of the branch, which was formed in December last for the purpose, of enabling people to wor£ up free materiaJ, viz.:—339o garments, 11,926 bandages, 3515 swabs, 406 face cloths, etc., and -urgently called for more workers. Mrs Clark reported that 100 schools were now doing Red Crosa work. Miss Todhnntcr reported that the Enquiry Bureau for missing soldiers was in need, of funds. Tlie monthly meeting 0 f the Sumner Red Cross Committee waa held on Tuesday, when' the> Mayoress (Mrs J. B. Laurenson) presided over a good attendaqoe. Monthly subscriptions, amounting to JCO 10s, were received, while the sum of £2 14s 7d was received a« proceeds from the afternoon tea stall at the recent bandago work display. During 1 th© meeting a competition was held, and this, resulted in £l 7e 6d being raised. It was dccided to vote" £.1 to the bandage committee, also to epend £10 in garments. An offer wa« received from a number of Christchurch artists to give a concert in aid of tho funds. It was decided to accept the offor, and were made to hold the evening on tho last Saturday the month. Mrs Gregory Hunt gave a doll to bo 'auctioned during the concert. On account of the low state of the funds, it was decided to accept Mrs Leithead's offer to arrange for a concert party from Kaiapoi to give a concert during July. Those present formed themselves into a working beo with a result that 30 housewives and 20 lioldalla were completed for the Lady Liverpool Fund.

RANGIORA. Mrs W. E. Barton, president of the Rangiora Red Cross Branch, reports that "he month ending May 31st was a record month in both the depot and bandage departments, the total for tho depot be ins 439 garments, and for the bandage department 2(396 articles. Apart from the workers at either department, generous support continued to come in from various quarters, which was most gratifying to tho committee. The Christchurch Savage Club had .promised to give a concert on Juno 11th. Special thanks wers due to the St. John Association, .the Saltwater Creek School, and the Rangiora Borough School for largo paroels sent in by them, and also to the High School for articles made from material 6upplted by the branch. Through tho energy of the secretary (Mrs J. 0. Josling), the sum of £11 2s had been collected from the sale of chrysanthemums, and would be used in buyinsr wool for she Borough * School children. The committee wished to thank Mrs Josling for her successful effort. * Special gifts had been received from the following:—Meedames Whiteside. C. Cunningham, Nutting, D. Stephens (Swannanoa), J. The Lyric Orchestra and Concert Party had offered to give a concert in aid of funds, and it was decided to hold the conoert on July 10th.

RAKAIA, The monthly meeting of the Rakaia Branch was held in St. Mark's schoolroom, when there was a good attendance of members. Mre Todd reported that for the month of April the district collectors had handed in i!l9 15s 6d, and that there was a balance in hand of £35. A cheque for £47 183 was received from the Ashburton Patriotic Show Committee, being the share due to each branch helping at the show. Mrs Penny reported that 20 garments .had boen sent in to the depot, and several members volunteered to do more sewing. Miss Hardy reported that 20 pairs of socks had been received, and Mrs Hardy reported that bandages to the value of £17 5s had been made up. A donation of £7 5s was thankfully received from the men's bandage class. Mrs Featherston was anpointed agent for the "Red Cross Record." On Juno 3rd a most successful concert was given in tho Town Hall by eight members of the Christchurch Savage Club. It is expccted that £S0 will be the proceeds of the evening's entertainment, LYTTELTON. A successful jumble sale was held in the Holy Trinity schoolroom yesterday afternoon and evoning under the auspicce of the Lyttelton branch of tho Motners' Union. Tho proceeds will be devoted to Red Cross work. HALSWELL. The following work was completed by the Halswell Red Cross branch during April:— 330 triangulais, 268 rolled bandages, 200 medicine cloths, 200 slings, 190 manitaUs, 70 wringers, 60 operation cloths, 60 jug covers, 40 body binders, 40 toilet squares, 10 treasure bags, and 8 pairs of soldiers' socks. During tho month the Halswell public school children made 6 dozen handkerchiefs, 18 face cloths, and 1 pair of socks. SALE OF STOCK. At the Addington Metropolitan Market the following stock were sold in aid of tho Red Cross Fund:—For Jarman Bros. (Darfield), 1 ewe at 255: for J. Cunningham (Brooksidei, 1 ewe at 253; and for H. Oliver (Hororata), 1 ewe at 21s. NEW BRIGHTON.

The annual meeting of the 'Red Cross Society was held in the Pier Hall last night. The Mayo» (Mr J. A. Flesher) liresidod. The renort stated that no.fewer than 12.937 articles had been mnde and despatched to the central depot. The total receipts were £GB3 11b, and the expenditure £1-18 17a leaving a credit balance of £234 13a Id. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes referred in eulogistic terms to the able way Mr Flesher had conducted the affairs of the Canterbury Centre of the Bed Cross during his (Mr Rhodes'a) seven months' abscnce. The thing iihat impressed him most -while in England was the utter darkness of the towns at night. The country seemed like one huge camp. A vote of vhanks to the women's section and P.il who had in any way os?isfced was carried, axd the officers were re-elccted. A large quantity of work of excellent quality was on exhibition, and provoked much favourable comment. RED CROSS SALES DE^OT The week-end sale of home-made foodstuffs, etc., will be held at the Depot, Cathedral , square to-morrow night and on Saturday morning. The sale will be iri, charge of Mrs John Stevenson and Mrs Waiter Hill, and there will be offered for sale a large variety of meat and fruit pies, cakes of all 6orts, poultry, fresh lamb and mutton, table delicacies, jama, chutney, and preserves, also flowers, fruit, and vegetables. LADY LIVERPOOL FUND. As a result of the lecture recently given by Mr John Clegg, of Dunedin, in the Oddfellows' Hall, Lyttelton, the sum of £6 Is wijl bo available for the Lady Liverpool Fund. .
