The Canterbury Park Trotting Club's ■Winter Meeting was brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday, the day turning out fine after the morning's hard frost, though with an easterly breeze blowing the atmosphere became very keen before the close of tne afternoon. With tho observance of a general holiday, there was a very large attendance, and' the tofc&lisator investments showed an increase for tbe day, though with the falling-off on the first day the total for the Meeting did not quito reach last years figures. Saturdav's total was £25.329 10s, as compared with .£21,006 10s for tbe second day last year, the iigxires lor tbe Mooting being £39,19S 10s, as against £39.481. The track bad received a lot of attenti.ou in tho interval, but it bad not recovered from the cutup it received on Thursday, and as tbo result of the hard front was decidedly heavy, and the times registered were naturally Biow. " Most of the dividends at Cantcxbury Park on Saturday were rather small, but the last throe races gave backers surprises, the winner in each case returning a double-figure price. Mintson's dividend was the biggest pail during the meeting, and was snrpri-s----i;igly large for a. winner turned out of J. I?rycc's stable. Jlorke's Drift ran a great race in the Provincial Handicap at the Dun-> edin Jockey Club's Meeting on Satur-' day. He was interfered with four furlongs' froiii home, and then had to come round two horses on the last turn. The Calibre gelding very nearly caught Ijingform at. the. distance, but he was tiring at the finish, and small wonder. If it had been further Kingform would have won easier. Mur hind, the well known Rakaia sportsman. owner of Country Belle. Both the races for unlioppled trotters at Canterbury Park on Satuniav were won very easily. In the Progressive Handicap. Maori Princess so-m drew awav from the rest of the field, and establishing a good lead before half the journey had been covered, was never afterwards troubled. In '.V Sock burn Handicap the Australian-brt\l Hardv Wilkes, trained aud driven !>y A. Flemincc, registered a similar per formance, having the race won a long way from home.
