SOUTH ISLAND POULTRY ASSOCIATION.
HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The half-yearly meeting of the South Island (New Zealand) I'oultry, Pigeon and Canary Association was held in the secretary's rooms at the Colosseum yesterday morning. There -wore present Mr G. E. Jeffreys (president), Mr E. J. Ross (vice-president), and Messrs A. Smith (United Pigeon Club), A. Walker (Granity), P. Carolan (Duncdin), E. Itowe (SVestport), J. McLean (Christchurch), J. H. Innes (South Canterbury). R. Pearce (Tapanui), J. Tindall (Utility Poultry Club), T. Loveday (North Canterbury), H. B. Chegwin (Kaitangata), 11. Wells "(ChristcliurCh) and A. Thomson (Auckland). The report for the half-year dealt with the art union scheme, which had been a great succcss, and also referred to the trouble with the Christchurch Pigeon Club, which was reviewed at length, and the Council stated that they had brought up the matter for consideration by the delegates. After considerable discussion, chiefly on the mutter of the Christchurch Pigeon Club, the meeting unanimously adopted the report. An interim balance-sheet, showing a strong financial position, was also received. The meeting accorded a hearty vote of thanks to the late president, Mr A. "Walker, the present president, Mr Jeffreys, and the officials who had carried the art union to what promised to be a most satisfactory conclusion. The president spoke highly of the art urrion, and regretted that the North Islaud had not taken part in it. The art union was bringing the clubs and the Association together, and placing tho Association in a strong financial position. In the past their revenue had been far too small for their objects, but this scheme would place the Association in a position to pay judges. Tho conference unanimously agreed to accept tho improved standard as suggested by the Utility Poultry Club, and the motion was carried. A letter was road from Mr W. A. Selwyn, protesting against his disqualification by the Christchurch Poultry Club, and its confirmation by the Association. It was decided to write to Mrs Selwyn that her disqualification expired 011 Saturday, and Mr Selwyn's on Juno Ist. Mr Smith gave notice of motion that after 1916 the Association discontinue the use of rings, leaving the matter of arranging for tho supply of rin«:s to the clubs. Mr "Walker stated that almost everyone wns in favour of healing the broach with the Christchurch Pigeon Club. He understood that the Pigeon Club was prepared to make an application for reaffiliation. and was prepared to surrender unconditionally, and that being so the Association should be only too ulad to allow the re-affiliation. Mr Smith's notice of motion had cleared the air a little by doing away with the ring nuisance. " That would be the best thing for the whole fancy. He suggested that they should not close the present meeting, but adjourn it for a fortnight from to-day, so that delegates could confer with their clubs. He believed that the Club would brins forward a new application. Mr Ross said they should do everything they could to heal the breach. Tliose present considered that the meeting could be adjourned . without any specific business being brought forward.
