Admiral Wood's victory in the King George Handicap at Canterbury Park yesterday. which was gained very decisively. was the iirst return ho lias made since ho was sold to his present owner at a four-figure prieo last spring. l'esterday's rain, following on the heavy downpour of the early part cf the week, made tin; track at Canterbury Park very heavy, and the times registered were in consequence decidedly slow. The "Winter Oats Handicap at. Canterbury Park yesterday looked like being a finish between the two American importations. Madam Shaw and Great Audubon, until the Auckland-owned King Capitalist camo 011 the scene in the last half-inilo and scored a, comfortable victory. Our Master ton correspondent ifh 1 - graphs that i\ motor-car collided with Fr.mbonnct on the Onaki road yesterday morning. As a result of the, impact the horse sustained a fraeturcd leg and was destroyed. The car was not seriously damaged. Franbonnet, who recently showed good form, was by San Fran—Sunbonnet, and was owned and bred by Mr AY. Cooper. The Lyttclton Handicap, .1 two-mile saddle race, produced a very exciting finish at Canterbury Park yesterday. Branston, who was ridden by the wellknown flat race jockey, A. Oliver, went to the front over half a mile from home, and was apparently winning comfortably, when Captain Stanley came with a strong run, and the .judge was unable to separate the pair. Tho Invercargill .sportsman, Mr >T. T5. Thomson, whose purchases of trotting horses have proved very fortunate, seemed a very good bargain in Antonio, who won the Advance Handicap at Canterbury Park yesterday in very good style. * Less than a fortnight ago Antonio was successful in the Brighton Handicap at tho New Brighton Club' 3 Autumn Meeting. In the Paihvay Handicap at Canterbury Park yesterday Tamarisk went away before his bell, and his driver (K. Hcay) was fined £10 by the starter. Tamarisk continued in the race, and finished in second place, behind John Dillon, with Bingana next. With Tamarisk out, Bingana took second inoney, while Frnnzalena was plaecd third, though there seemed little doubt that she finished behind Louie Drift.

At a meeting of the committee of the "Westland Racing Club, licld on Tuesday, n letter was received from the Racing Conference, asking that a term of disqualification he fixed in regard to the case of the jockey F. Lang-stone, who w:t>s disqualified afc the club's Summer fleeting during ])leasure, for striking another jockey with his whip. The Racing Conference, having pointed out that according to the Rules of Racing, tile disqualification must be for a fixed term, it. was decided to make the period of disqualification three years. Our J)unedin correspondent telegraphed the following notes in reference to yesterday's racing at Wingatui:—The Pacific Hurdles was a pretty race. .Nothing fell or ran off. Hap I)ha lost ground at the fences. Crib came when wanted, being evidently aide to haudle his big weight, even though the going was wet, and he won decisively without distress. Sir Hamilton lay handy throughout the Brighton Handicap, and challenged Bcllshire at the foot- of the straight, and won by a head in a finish that he quite controlled. In the Birthday Handicap, Quirinus ran himself out aluer six furlongs, and then ii. was a go all the way home between Ringform and Rorke's Drift, in which the latter won, according to the judw, bjr a head, though most of us made U a nook. Rorke's Brift looked a trifle lidit for such a burden as he had. but h,T galloped it out strongly, and looked like so in a; on. I expect that his light anpearanee created the dividend he paid". None of the riders who came down in the Ctago Steeplechase were pcriouslv hurt, but "W i 1 lis lititl <1 lar-bone broken. Black Sea. labourite, came to grief at the first fence. Carnmore. the winner, t?? supposed to bo out of an Earl of Richmond mare. Marsa made a "solo" of the Tradesmen's Handicap at the finish. Reel Chann did not last, and was one or the first beaten. Caraid Dileas might have troubled the winner but tor carrving 131b extra. For ard v.-as jumping like a deer., and making a one-horse race of the Hunters Steeplechase. when he fell. ,In the inter Welter. Osrier held the lead to the straight, where Brooksdale mastered iiim ° Ml Readv then came at Brooksdale with the best run he has shown for a long-time, and the favourite won bv only a head.
