OXFORD ROLL OF HONOUR.

VXVEILING CEREMOXY

There was a largo attendance, in spite of the wintry weather, at a gathering held in the Oxford Town Hall on Monday night to unveil an Honours Board containing the names of the men wlio had left the district to servo tho Empire, and also to bid farewell to recruits of the Sixteenth Reinforcements.

In the courso of a brief address, tho Mayor of Christchureh (Mr H. Holland) congratulated the district on the magnificent response it had mado to tho call, both for men and for money, for patriotic purposes. Oxford had reason to be proud of its record in tho provision of men, while its contribution to tho Patriotic Fund had been in excess of its quota. He noted with regret tho fact that American motor-cars wero being imp&.-ted into the Dominion in large numbers, tho latest consignment, which arrived in Auckland a few days ago, comprising 200 cars. It was no't fair to tho British manufacturer, especially <it the present time, to allow the American dealer to exploit the New Zealand market.

Smith, belonging to the 14th; J. Ivory, AY. 0. Lilley, "VV. Page, AV. Harbidge, Wm. Garlick, belonging to the 15th: J. R. Garlick, R. Garlick, T. Garlick, F. R. Garlick, AV. Young. T. Stubbs. AV. A. Hopkins, and L. C. Taylor, belonging to the 16th; L. Hack, AA\ Wright. 11. Clark, AV. Reynolds, Alcc. Brown, P. Gladden. P. O'Malley, Arthur Rydo. and J. F. Dallev, belonging to the 17th.

Of the names on the Honours Board. 0. Hahn. H. Ffitch. and E. S. Bassett havo made the supreme sacrifice. Those men leaving with the Seventeenth Reinforcements were farewelled. The Mayor congratulated them on tlicir decision to assist the Empire, and expressed the ho do that they would return safely. Each man was then presented with a safetv razor, and hearty chocrs were given for tho recipients. Mr D. Hawke, chairman of tho Patriotic Committee, presided, and during the evening songs were given by Messrs Whitham. Russell. T. Coooer. and P. Cook, and a refutation by Mr H. Glubh.
