The Woolston Borough Council met last ev-er.ins. Prosent —Ihe Hayor (Mr J. J. Graham) and Crs. J. B. Richardson, J. Hobson li. Hart, S. Radcliffe, F. Newton, V. Fuller, C. Hill, and G. Lillev. The trustees of tho Charlcsworth Estaito wrote protesting against water running over Charleeworth road, causing danger.—Tho foreman reported that the drains on the estate were not in order.—Received. The Chris>!cburch Tramway Board notified that the Tramway Depreciation Fund Commissioners had £2500 to lend at 3J per cent. The Engineer to tlic Christ-church Drainage Board wrote regarding the application of the Council for a right-of-way along the outfall drain between Aldwin's road and Mackworth street, stating that tho land in question was vested in trustees, and asking if the Council would defray the cost of legal enouiry—It was resolved to take no action. Tiie By-laws Committee reported that hedges in Hargreaves road were overgrown, and recommended that they bo trimmed at the cost of the owners.—Adopted. Tho Sanitation Committee reported that it had instructed the inspector to Gupply a report on all effluences running into "the Heathcote river, such analyses to be forwarded to the Drainage Board.—Adopted. The Finance Committee reported as follows:—Receipts £GG Is 7d, credit balance, general account £45 17s 7d. electricity loan account £820 15s, public works loan £40, temporary loans account (debit) £680. The Prime Minister wrote urging the Council to do their beet to encourage recruiting. The letter was received, the Mayor stating that the Council could not do any good. Cr. Radcliffe proposed, and Cr. Hobson seconded. "That the Borough Council write to the City Council, and also to the Government, protesting against the City Council's action in suspending the Public Works Act in regard to Aldwin's road." The motion was carried. Cr. Hart stated that the library ■vbb going back. The subscribers now only numbered 60. as against 69, and he suggested striking a rate. _ It was resolved to bring 1 tho matter up in the estimates.
