TELE FIRST CENTURY,

100 ENLISTMENTS YESTERDAY.

The throe-figure ntnrk in recruiting was roached in Christchurch yesterday exactly one hundred enlistments being received. This consititutes a fresh record, Saturday's ninety-two enlistments being the previous best. Yesterday's recruits comprised 18 married and 80 single men. two not stating whether they were married or single. On Saturday 66 rccniits were single and 24 married, tho other two not airing particulars. No fewer than 66 men wero medically examined in Christchurch yesterday, and so overworked were tho stall that 30 of tho men had to bo sent t« private doctors. The surplus of fit men secured for t£s Canterbury Infantry draft of tho 17th Reinforcements jumped from 55 to 71 yesterday. Christchurch increased its surplus from '2S to 38, Timaru from 8 to 'JO. and Kaiapoi from 9 to 14. Th o Nelson surplus remained at 10, and Greymouth decreased its deficiency from 13 to 11. To-night tho Kaiapoi quota of tho 17th Reinforcements leaves for camp. •The men will parade at the King Edward Barracks at 6 p.m., and subsoj quently board the second express for Lyttelton. To-morrow tho Christchurch and . Timaru men go north. The Christ-" church quota will parade at tho King Edward Barracks at 6 p.m., and. escorted bv tho C.D.C., will march to ' the railway station, wlicro they board a special train for Lyttelton conveying the Timaru men. As a consequence, the daily medical examination of recruits at the Government Recruiting Office will not be held in the afternoon, but will be held in: the evening instead. This will prob-. . ably be the last medical examination , held in the present quarters, as on Thursday the Government Recruiting Bureau will remove to its new office in Cathedral square, next to tho Grand Theatre.

Men holding enlistment badges whti are leaving for camp tomorrow night are requested to return them to the recruiting officers, if possible, to-day, and at the very latest by to-morrow.
