Denver Huon went slightly amiss a few days ago. and the trip to Australia to compete in the Sydney Thousand had to be cancelled. A large number of horses are in work at the present time on the New Brighton track, and during the next few days some interesting training should be witnessed. Sir George Clifford's young stallion, Autumnus. by Treadmill—Goldleaf, was sent to liis owner's stud at Stonyhurst yesterday, and lie will remain there for the next stud season. T. Annett had an addition to bis team recently in a maiden five-year-old trotter, by King Tracey from Romany Lad's dam. He was bred by F. Amor, and sold to a local sportsman a few days ago. Jl'he New Brighton trainer, A. G. Wilson, met with a nasty accident a few days ago while driving a young horse, which took fright. The .mishap will keep him out of the sulky for a week or so. . Mr Watson has disposed of his two-year-old trotting gelding by Petereta—• Rothschild mare to Mr Murray, of Kaikoura. The youngster left for his new home yesterday, and is to be given plenty of time to develop before being asked to race. M. Edwards's Now Brighton Derby candidate, Reggie Huon, was responsible for an excellent workout over a mile and a half yesterday, accompanied by Wallace Wood. The colt exhibited too much speed for his older companion, and at the end of the journey finished several lengths in front. By his latest effort his prospects in the Derby are very brigEt, and his form will be watched with much interest at the forthcoming Meeting. Acceptances for the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Clnb's Easter Meeting were taken last night, when owners made a particularly liberal response. There wero only twenty-four withdrawals spread over eight races, and the fields" in all the events will therefore be verv large. Don Crr ; sar, Admiral Wood, Adelaide Direct, and Adonis -were allowed to drop out of the Easter Handicap, while Cromstall was the on]v one to forfeit his engagement in the International Handicap. The two chief events on the day's programme promise to provide exceptional contests, there being fourteen. left in the Easter Handicap and ! fifteen in the International Handicap.
