"WELLINGTON, April 7

An interesting collection comprising a series of portraits and historical material relating to the Maori wars has been obtained from Mr-W. F. Gordon, of New Plymouth, and to-day it, was thrown open lor inspection at the Dominion Museum.

The Hon. G. W. Russell, addressing those present, referred to the Mitchell Library in Sydney, and to the efforts already made at Auckland and Christchurch to secure collections of material connected with the history of these provinces. He thought there should, also be a national collection. The Board of Science and Art proposed to find space for one in the new Museum, and the collection now displayed was the nucleus of this national exhibition.

Mr Russell also presented the King's Modal lor polar .exploration work to Mr H. Hamilton, of the museum staff, who was biologist with the Mawson Antarctic Expedition,
