PRISONER ESCAPES.

(r/RESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, March. 10. A break lor liberty -was made this afternoon by a young prisoner named George I>awson Barrett, aged 22, who is undergoing a sentence of twelve months' reformatory treatment at Mount Eden gaol for theft of a bicycle. Barrett was working with, a gang of prisoners in Mountain road. The gang, which was in charge of two warders, was engaged in building a wall. Barrett, taking advantage of a moment when the -warders' backs were turned, made a break up the road towards Epsom. He had not gone far before he attracted the attention of some boys, who gave the aiarm to the warders. Chase was immediately given, -with, the assistance of police, but the man has not been recaptured.
