The Queen Election results afforded a surprise for ' the city yesterday, when it was noticed tnat the two last on the list of the previous da>, viz., the Public Service and Soldiers' Queen, had sprung into the lead. A wen-attoißicu meeting or tnc Territorial Section ot the Cioidiers' Queen ■was held in the Ottieers' Club room, King Jidward Barracks. .Lieut.-Cui. J. Murphy was in the chair. AYith regard to the bazaar and .jumble sale to be held in the Barracks, an extended list of suitable side-shows was submitted, and jelt with the sub-committee to deal with. Ihc \ eterans' Association was arranging the ladies' March of the Allies. The offer of the Army Service Corps to run a flower stall was accepted, it lvas resolved that all Territorials he asked to bring, on their weekly paiadc night, whatever articles they were contributing to the jumble sale, and hand them over to their commanding officers. The woodwork class had started operations, but more carpentcrs were still needed for this section. The vaudeville entertainments, arranged by the A.S.C., were fixed for March Ist and 2nd, in the Opera House. Thursday, March 23rd, was decided upon for the sports meeting, probabiy to he held in the ' Barracks. The Veterans' Association offered to give their assistance to further the interests of the Soldiers' Queen; their rooms w.ere.at-the disposal of the committees for meetings, etc., also clerical assistance would be available. The offer was heartily accepted. It was decided that O.C.C.'s should make weekly payments of all moneys received by their respective units, and a statement brought forward accordingly at cach. general meeting. TO-DAY'S-PATRIOTIC FETE, v For tho Patriotic Fete and Soiree Musicale, to be held to-day at Avebur.v, Richmond, the residence of Mr •T. A. Flesher, Mayor of New "Brighton, from 2.30 to 10 p.m., special tram arrangements have been made. From G p.m. the Friday night time-table will he observed excepting the two trips from Tweed street to the Square, 8.38 and 9.38. which will be run two minutes earlier. All trams (No. 10) both in and out wili drop passengers at tin? gates, and an extra trip will be run from New Brighton via North Beach, leaving the Pier at 7.30. All returned soldiers who can make it convenient to do so, arc. invited to accept the hospitality of the committee at the fete. Free accommodation is be>ing provided for motor-cars and other vehicles. INDUSTRIAL CROUP. A meeting of the executive of the Industrial Section was held last night. Mr Goss presided over a good attendance of delegates from the various sections. A letter was received from the Dairying Section, stating that suppliers to the various factories were subscribing very liberally to the Peninsula Queen's Fund. . It was decided to hold a hot roll morning in aid of the fund. The nroposnl that an art union should b.< held by the Industrial Group was apnroved. Tt was decided to use every effort' to induce all unorganised sections to come in with organised sections. QUEEN OF THE NORTH. A meeting will be held in tlie Institute Hall, Rangiora, on Monday night, to nominate a Queen for Rangiora in the Queen of the North "Election, and to discuss other patriotic matters. Tho balance-sheets of the Patriotic Funds will be presented. A public meeting will he held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Kaiapoi, on Monday night, to elect a Queen candidate 'for the Queen of the North contest. Afterwards a meeting of the Kaiapoi local bodies and others will be held to set up a. local Recruiting Board under tho Government scheme. QUEEN OF THE NORTH. The Mayor of Rangiora has convened a public mqeting for Monday evci#ig to givo the residents of the town in opportunity to nominate a Queen for the Queen of the North election, to take placo on the following Wednesday evening. The new recruiting scheme and other patriotic matters will be discussed, and the balance-sheets of the various "nntriotic funds to December 31st -n-il'l he presented. SOLDIERS' QUEEN. An open-air concert in aid of the Soldiers' Queen will he sriven in Cathedral square, in front of Warner's Hotel, A band concert will he given hv tho C Y.C. Band in the Domain Gardens at' 3 p.m. to-morrow. To-mor-row night a sacred concert will be given in Everybody's Theatre. TIMBER TRADES. A general meeting of representatives of the timber, building and allied trades Industries Section. No. 1. will be hold to-night at tho Art Gallery PUBLIC SERVICES. A concert in aid of the Public Service Group will be given at the Theatre Royal on Saturday, February 26th. The programme will be under the direction of Dr. J. C. Bradshaw and Mr Alfred Bunz. Owing to the wet weather the auction sale which was to ha\ e been held last night in Cathedral Square, m aid of the Patriotic Fund, was postponed until this evening.
