A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING.
At the Art Gullery last evening an informal and successful social evening -was tendered to the returned men from Gallipoli by a committee of ladies styling themselves -the "An'zac Party," under the presidency of Dr. Ethel Sands. There was a splendid attendance, about forty returned men, in addition to many prominent citizens, including Mrs G. E. Rhodes, the Soldiers' Queen, appropriately attired in nurse's uniform, settling down to a full evening's enjoyment. Everything had been provided for their amusement. Card tables had been set out, cigarettes, sweets; and light refreshments provided, and the main gallery had been arranged as a. drawing-room, wliero on a raised platform a band, under the leadership of Mr C. "Wells, dispensed music, and in addition vocal items were given by various ladies and gentlemen. Th© card room, appropriately beflagged, -was also used for various games, guessing competitions, and for-tune-telling by Mrs Valiance. . Everything was carried off in a highly Buooeeeful manner, and the -informality of the gathering appreciably - added to its enjoyment, the majority of the men . being heartily tired of formal evenings which ara so reminiscent of parades.
