In reply to a further question, Mr Allen stated that no time limit on the lies of Lord Derby's schemo was to be introduced into the New Zealand scheme. Efforts would bo made to obtain the required number of men on the rolnntary principle, "and if we cannot thus Rccnro them there must be compulson. There was not the slightest chance of Parliament meeting before the due date, stated the Minister, "except," he added significantly, "it is necessary to amend the law regarding enlistment." "I should be only too happy to try to arrange a parade of another reinforcement draft in Christchurch if the people of Canterbury are satisfied with what they had the last time," replied Mr Allen in answer to a question by the pressman. "If they ask fe*- more, I very much regret I cannot do it."
