QUEEN ELECTION.

WHOLESALE AND RETAIL GROUP. A meeting of the executive of the Wholesale and Retail Group was held in the Royal Exchange Buildings on Saturday. Present: Mr W. Morley (in tho chair), Misses Coombs and Richardson, Messrs G. L. Berry, C. E. Boon, 'J'. E. Clayton, J. Cross, E. Loclovood, T. Kincaid, Geo. Nicholson, \V. L. Thomas, J. W. Watson, G. H. Weir, and the sccrctary, Mr E. Nortlcn. The sccrctary reported that, -mtii few exceptions, tho various sub-sec-iions had been working well. A number of subscriptions had come in, and many more had been promised. Mr Boon, for tho Master Bakers' Association, reported that the members had agreed to pay two guineas monthly to the fund. Mr Cross, for tho Piano trades, gave an excellent report of the work Gone therein, and mentioned subscriptions from firms and employees already amounting to £220. Mr Nordon, for tho Brewers, mentioned that three firms had contributed £750. (Applause.) Mr Lockwood also reported that the oil and colour trade had responded remarkably well. It was notified that the dairies, the fruiterers, and the aerated water manufacturers were more than likely to form sub-sections of their own instead of falling in with any other section. THE SOLDIERS' QUEEN. The weather was all that could be wished for the garden party that was given by tho nurses at the Hospital grounds on Saturday. There -was an excellent attendance, and all who went there were thoroughly satisfied with the efforts made to entertain them. The grounds presented a very pleasing sight, with the nurses in uniform, and the largo number of lady visitors. The Woolston and Tramway Bands were present, and gavo a number of selections during the afternoon. The nurses and the mcmbci-s ol St. John Ambulanco were in charge of the stalls and gipsy tent: aiul the afternoon tea tables. Soldiers in uniform ivcro also among tho collectors. Altogether good business was done in every departnynt. A rorj successful collector was a lady—an invalid —who sold buttonholes, and noiu could refuso her. Tho members of tlu Red Cross Ambulance Corps gave s most interesting demonstration of theij work. In every respect tho afternoor was most pnjoyable. and should meat a tangible addition to the funds of tin Soldiers' Queen, iu whose behail' tin party was held. * TIMBER. SECTION. A general meeting of "the Timber am Allied Trades, No. 1 section, was licit on Saturday evening at the Art Gal lery, Mr W. Gloss presiding. Then was a j3&od attendance. . The chairman introduced Mrs Waltc Hill, the Industries' Queen, who re ceived a very cordial greeting from thi meeting.
