SATURDAY'S SITTING. (rRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January '29. Tho Senate of the University of New Zealand resumed its sitting this morning, tho Chancellor (Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice) presiding. The Degree and Commerce Examinations Committee brought uiVan interim report. It recommended, among other things, that a meeting be held between the committee and the Society of Accountants ; that no action bo taken in the direction of establishing a B.Litt.; that tho action of the University' Agent be confirmed in the matter of the appointment of examiners, and that examiners bo appointed as recommended by tho Board of Studies, viz.: English Professor Elton (Liverpool), Professor Moorman (Leeds), Professor MooreSmith (Sheffield), Professor GregorySmith (Belfast), Professor Lifctledalc (Cardiff). Commercial French and German—Professor Kastner _ (Manchester University), Professor Week ley (Nottingham University), Professor Atkins (London University), Professor Spiers (London University). The committee further recommended that the Statute relating to the Degrees of Doctor of Literature be amended so as to provide that a candidato for the degree of Doctor of Literature shall either (a) be a Master of Arts of tho University of New Zealand, or (b) hold a degree, of that or some other approved University, substantially equivalent, in tho opinion of Senate, to tho said degree ; provided that no candidate 6hall be accepted in virtue of graduation at another University unless his thesis embodies the result of a research cither (a) of peculiar importance to New Zealand, or (b) conducted at a college affiliated to the University of New Zealand and occupying at least two academic years; provided further that no candidate shall present himself for the degree until at least five years after admission to his first degree. A similar amendment of the Statute relating to the degree of Doctor of Science was also proposed. Further, that nothing bo done respecting the institution of Honoui-s in Education nendinn a further report from the Board of' Studies. and that the meeting of teachers of education he held during the next annual meeting of the Board of Studies. 7ho recommendations regarding the degrees of Doctors of Literature and .Science were held over for consideration at a later date. The other recommendations were adopted. Hie Senate then adjourned until Mondav.
