SYDENHAM CIRCUIT
Tho circuit quarterly meeting was held on Thursday evening, when there was a fairly good attendance. The Boy. A. N. Scotter presided, and in_his opening remarks welcomed Sister Flor* ence, who had been dbsent from the circuit for somo months. He also referred to tho death of Mrs M. Hall and Mr I. Kirk, both old members of tho chnrch. Membership returns showed 209 full members and 28 juniors. Sundayschool statistics were 333 scholars on the roll, with an averago of 213. Tho various classes and meetings _ rfi" ported as being in a healthy condition. The financial statement for the past quarter showed an income, including £30 from tho bazaar effort, of £11J, which balanced the expenditure, eluding tho previous deficit of £30. During tho quarter, l>esidc3 the Rose Carnival effort, about £8 had been paid to tho Patriotic and Chaplains Funds, and tho choir had' raised villus by Christmas carolling for the Patriotic Fund. The Homo Mission work of tho church had been supported to the extent of £34 for_the year, and tho Foreign- Mission Fund haa been paid £40. . Tho circuit stewards, Messrs Wright and I*. J- Berry, were re-elected for the ensuing year. Mr W. Dobbs was elected represents-. tivo to conference, with Mr Berry as substitute. Sister Florence was unanimously invited to remain another year in tho'circuit, and accepted tho invitation.
DURHAM STREET. ,i The quarterly meeting of tho op- j cials of the Durham street Methodist circuit was held on Thursday. The Rev. P N Knight presided over a large attendance of officials. Tho pastoral report showed tho number of member? on the roll to bo 262," an increase of threo on tho previous quarter. The balance-sheet showed the income tor the quarter to be £217. After meeting all circuit liabilities the sum of £73 was transferred to the. Trust Fund acoount. Tho Mission Fund secretary reported that the sum of £72 had been raised for foreign missions, and for home missions. Mr H. R. Best having resigned, Mr W. L. Thomas was appointed circuit secretary and treasurer for missions. Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Can- i terbury Synod, requesting tho meeting to favourably consider the inclusion of j the Durham street South and tho High street Churches in the Durham street, circuit. The following resolution was carried unanimously:—"This meeting having duly considered the resolu- j tion of the District Synod, recommend- J ing the amalgamation of the Durham street South and High street Churches, ■respectfully declines to entertain th«» proposal." Messrs E. C. Brown and R. ; Hampton were re-elected circuit stew- ] ards. Messrs R. Hampton and G. Bar- j rell were elected delegates to the an- i nual conference, with Messrs C. Overton and C. K. Wigglesworth as sub- j stitute representatives." .
