"William Lunden, for entering licens-' cd premises durins the: currency of a prohibition order, was fined 105,.0r an default -i 8 hours' imprisonment. George William Hill and Jame s Nevin, for procuring liquor whilst prohibited, were each fined 10s, ■ m default 48 hours' imprisonment. George Barnsden, for a similar offence, had his nrohibition order renewed for 12 months, and was convicted and discharged. Maurice Sherston, for procuring liquor for a prohibited person, was fined £3. or in default one month's iniuisonment. MAIXTENAXCE. George Croat was ordered to pay 10s per week towards the support of his two children, who are inmates of an industrial home. Olive Anderson, charged with the disobedience of a maintenance order, stated that her husband, who was returning to New Zealand from Newcastle, had promised to pay. His Worship stated he could not help her; he rjould only enforce the order. Ho therefore ordered her to-pay 2s per week off the arrears. Edward Brown was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, with arrears amounting to £lo 12< lOd. He stated he was earning 30s a week only, and was also keeping a mother aged 7S. He was ordered to pay 2s a week, in default- one month's imprisonment-. Percy Williams was charged with not maintaining his, child. The case was adjourned for a fortnight. James Hcslip, charged Maurice.Hcslip (his son) with disobedience of a maintenance order. The arrears were only 16s. The son stated lie had allowed the case to come to Court in order to sco what could be done. He was willing to give his father all tho money he wanted, and do what he could for him, but the latter would persist in drinking and mixing with bad companions. Sergeant Jackson rave evidence as to the drinking habits of the informant, who characterised them as "Entirely false, Mr Bishop. - ' "Of course you sav tliey are false. I will issue a prohibition order against you." The son thereupon expressed himself as only too willing to pay up the arrears.

(Before Messrs W. C. C'leary and L. A. Stringer, J.P.'s.) James Knowl&s' was charged with' assaulting John Hallett, at Lyttelton, on December 14tli, so as to cause his actual bodily harm. Mr M. Donnelly appeared for Knowles. After hearing the evidence, accused was committed for trial, bail being allowed, self in £30, and one surety of £50.

(Before Mr C. T. Sneyd, J.P.) Herbert Thomas Portcous, alias Staig, was charged with obtaining goods valued at £5 15s from W. Baxter, tailor, Waikaii, by means of false pretences. He was remanded to appear at C'hristchurch to-day.

Albert George Pearcc was adjudged the putative father of illegitimate twins, and was ordered to pay 10s per week and past maintenance. Ho was also ordered to find one surety of £100. Civil Cases--C. B. Mason (Mr Van Asch) v. T. G. Jtidley.— Judgment was given for plaintiff for £47 13s 2d with costs £4 4s Cd. Judgment summonses— E. B. P. Brown (Mr Van A sch) claimed £1 1.3s 2d from Frederick Dench. Defendant being a married ir.an with five childicn dependent on him, no order was made. John Sansom v. Andrew McLaughJan, claim £G 13s f:cl.— Defendant was ordered to pay i!:> per week.

ASHBURTON

(Before Mr W. 'W, White, J.P.) Alexander Maxwell was brought up on remand, charged with committing an indecent aet.on January 7th, and with committing an indecent assault on a female under the age ot sixteen years at Wakanui, on June 2nd. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
