CASUALTIES.
: Yesterday, as Mr F.' Burdott Sapsford and Mrs Sapsford, of Chnstc'._urch, wcro returning to town from a' tour of the West' Const, on a motor cj-cle _ and side-car, tiioy collided oil tho-Kniapoi. bridge with a lorry "driven by Mr Frank Miles. Tho motor was just leaving the houth end of the bridge, and a horse vehicle was also driving off it. Tho lorry coming .on left ho room for Mr Sapsford to pass between the kerbing of tho bridge and the lorry, into which he came in violent contact. He sustained "a compound fracture of the -right leg, and was conveyed . to the local nursing hbme. Mrs Sapeford fortunately escaped without injury.
(press association telegrams.) GJSBOIINE, January 4. Archibald 1 Stewart, aged 60, committed suicide by cutting hi s throat with a razor he hospital. William Crihnp, a. boy 3J vears of age, was thrown from a tran and killed at Matawai. ' CARTERTON, January 4. An accident occurred at the Featherston railway station this morning as a troop train drew in at 10.20 a.m., by which Privato Power, •of E Company, 10th Reinforcements, dipped and fell between the platform and the tram. Ho was seriously crushed; and was removed to the Greytown Hospital, where he lies in a precarious condition. NELSON, January 4. '- • . James Tait, clerk to tho Collingwood County Council, and an ex-tiostal official, committed suicido in his'office during last night by cutting his throat.
