MELBOURNE, January 4. Benator Pearcc, Minister of Defence, ■ in an interview, quoted extracts from a boob published by George Turner, who was recently the German ConsulGeneral, entitled, '-The Awakening of tho People of the Pacific." Turner declares that he had visited many villages where only one person spoke English, and as he left ho could hear them singing "Deutsehland Über Alles." He states that the Australasian colonies have ripened into Socialistic States, which are working towards tho severance of
tho last link binding them to the Motherland. It is not on account of England that they hav e rendered military assistance in this war, but because they wanted Samoa and New Guinea. Turner concludes: "This injury has made Germany wise, and her future colonial policy will be different from what it has been. After victory wo will bind on tho helmet tighter."
