Mr and Mrs E. J. of Wellington, arrived from the West Coast last evening.

Mr Alexander Clarke, fields inspector for tho Lakes district, died at Queenstown last week. He was a member of the 4th New Zealand Contingent which saw service in the South African War.

The late Mr M. D. Hornsby, of Carterton, who died on Saturday, was recently married to Miss JDelford, youngest daughter of Mrs Delford, a pioneer Wairarapa settler and a sister, of Mrs M. Donnellv. of Christchurch.

Miss M. E. Sandilands, Associate of tho Otago University in Homo Science, who has been acting as relieving Home Science teacher at the Cliristchurch Girls' High School, has been appointed by the Hawke's Bar Education Board to the position of Home Science teacher at the Gisborno Centre.

Private Arthur Edward Taylor., of E Company, oth Reinforcements, died at Trentham Hospital on New Year's Day from cerebro-spina] meningitis. Ho was taken ill suddenly last week. Deceased, who was 24 years of ago, was a son of Mr John Taylor, of TVhakapirau, North Auckland. The body was sent north yesterday for interment.

Privato Honrv Senior, of the Canterbury Battalion Third Reinforcements, who returned to New Zealand bv the Tahiti, which arrived at Port Chalmers on Christmas Day, died in the Dunedin Hospital on Friday morning from typhoid fever. Privato Senior, who had snent four months and n-half in tho trenches at Gallipoli, was 30 years of age, and was the second son of Mr John Senior, of Brunnerton. Before he enlisted he was employed as n miner in the North. Brunner mine. The deceased was accorded a military funeral on Sunday, and a fairly large number of returned soldiers took advantage of the opportunity of paying their last tribute of respect to their comrade.
