LARGE ENTRIES OF PATS
(bt ocb commercial editor.)
In view of the fact that the freezing works open for a week on Friday, and that the freezing buyers would therefore be ooeratinc. there were largo entries of fat cattle, sheep, and lambs. There was a good attendance. Fat cattle opened weaker, but improved, and fat lambs sold well. Store sheep, which aLso formed a large yarding, were dull of sale at lower prices. Fat sheep sold at about equal to last week's prices. Store cattle were dull of .--ale; and pigs were generally easier.

The yarding of store &heep was a fairly large one. wethers forming a considerable proportion of the yarding, 'liie demand was decidedly weak, the only class commanding anything like keen competition being* forward wethers. All other descriptions could only be fold at price* which compared unfavourably with the value's ruling a week earlier. The jjassings, despite the poor prices, were relatively small, owners being disinclined to hold longer on account of the shortage of feed. The rai.ge of prices was: — Rape lambs. lU.s to 10s 3<l. The yarding of lat lambs was much the largest of the season, . totalling 2624, and tho quality generally was very good, in fact much better than was expected. Tho prices were firm throughout, and freezing lots wer t; equal to fully G£d per lb j over all. As this was the first occasion the buyers have had to test the weight
of the lambs this season, the prices thov paid -were, if anything, beyond export values. The range of prices was:— Best lambs, 20s to 2os. . Lighter. 12s to 19s (3d. The principal sales were:—For H. VEALERS. Fat calves were again represented by an overflowing yarding, tno entry being altogether too large for requirements. Quality covered the usual wide range, the animals offered varving from small calve*; only a few weeks old to wellgrown specimens which should have been penned among' the stores. In many cases condition was lacking. There was tho customary and prices ranged from 8s to 70s, according to qualitv. STORE CATTLE. ' The entry of store cattle was within narrow compass, mostly of indifferent quality, tho only exceptions being some useful lines of four and five-year bullocks. The demand showed little or no cbango from last week, except that buyers showed even more reluctance than heretofore to touch animals in ' very Jow condition. An excellent Short- J

I Thero was a large yarding of pigs in the fat section, but the quality was very mixed, half-finished animals prodominating. All good baconers commanded free competition, but the supply of porkers was beyond requirements, and prices were easier. Quotations are:— Choppers, 40s to 122s 6d. Extra heavy baconers, 80 s to 88s.
