REDCUFFS SCHOOL. The breaking-up social and prize-giving tt the RedclirTa ocbool took place on. Tuesday evening, in the prceence of a large gathering of scholars, parents, ktld friends. There was special singing by the children, and a recitation sm given by Mr Adam?. There was. u very large attendance, and the proceed* of tlij sale of tickets will go to the Patriotic .Fund. Mr R. Bail, chairman of the School Board, presided, and referred to the largo number of old boys who had volunteered for servics. The names of 63 of them were given oil the programme, eix being killed—H. Bruco. D. Boyd, S. Conway, K. Fleming:, fl. Hopkins, and R. Young*. " Mr Ball said lie. did not propose to give- the usual -resume o>; the year's work, but he would say that the year had Iwcn most satisfactory. Professor F. W. A motion oj sympathy was passed with the relative;) of tho six old boys who lia<l fallen during the war. Lieut.-Colonel Loach presented the Victory Shield to Sergeant Scott, who received it on behalf of the School Cadets. Ho referred to the lamentable shortage in the number of men required from North Canterbury for tho Eleventh Reinforcements. Tho Thirteenth North Canterbury Regiment, he said, had proved themselves on Oaliipoli to be one <>f the finest New Zealand regiments. Tho district would have to make n tremendous tilort to uphold th<. traditions of those men. Mr W. E. Barton., president of the Red Cross Society, thanked tho school children for their effort in collecting i'lso lis 'Jd in threo months, for the lied Cross Kund. ilr Barton presented Red Cress priics to Vera Saunders and Winifred Jordan. Mr S. H. Richards, father of H. S. Richards, M.A., Rhodes Scholar, stated that his son was now a & ec-cnd-licutenant of an English Infantry Regiment.
