HOT WEATHER.

91 IN" THE SHADE. A hotter day than yesterdoy has not so far been experienced during ' the year. Tho preceding evening was not marked by any irregularity, but thos« who faced the dawn found in the temperature of the atmosphere even then something which indicated hotter times io follow. By 6 a.m. the thermometer ivas well up to the 70 mark, and as tho day developed the heat increased until it reached its maximum of 91.5 in the shade, a gentle 117 being recorded in the sun. During the morning n very rght easterly wind was to bo detected, "but it lacked its usual refreshing coolness, and it might have been a nor'wester for all the good it did to bring down the temperature. Many people found the heat quite overpowering, despite, the efforts mado to obtain comfort by reducing clothing. Early in the afternoon the easterly faded away altogether., and gave place to a moderate nor'-westerly, which helped to keep up the high temperature. By 5 p.m., however, the indicator fell to 83.3. and as sundown approached and passed a mor t ; comforting coolness set in. It was a warm summer's night, notwithstanding, and anywhere but oul of doors was still more or loss oppressive on account of tho prolonged retention of the excessive heat accumulated during the day. Seaside resorts where bathing facilities were to be enjoyed formed a popular rendezvous during the day. and tho tepid baths in tho city were in big demand throughout the afternoon and evening.
