OBITUARY.

THE EARL OF GLASGOW

(By Cable.—Prec« Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, December 13. The death is announced of the Earl of Glasgow. ex-Governor of New Zealand, aged 82 years.

David Boyle, the seventh Earl of Glasgow, was born on May 31st, 1833, In 1873 lie married a daughter of Sir Edward Hunter-Blair. by whom ho had a family of five sons and three daughters. Ho entered tho Navy at the age of twelve and served til lio readied commander's rank. In the Russian war he served in the AVhito Sen, and in the war with China in 1857 lie again saw active service. From 1892 to 1897 ho was Governor and Com-mander-in-Chief of New Zealand. Lord Glasgow was very popular in New Zealand, and he took a very keen interest in our affairs after his return to the Old Country.

The Earl of Glasgow's eldest sou. Viscount Kelburn, succeeds to tho title. He was l>orn on June 18th, 1874. After a two years' course as u naval cadet on H.M.S, Britannia he joined tho Navy in 1889, being appointed a lieutenant in 1897, and a commander threo years later. Ho is at present in command of H.M.S. Py ramus. Cable advice was received recently that ho had been awarded the Distinguished Service Order. The new Lady Glasgow is in Wellington with her three children.
