The monthly meeting of the iSuinncr Borough. Council was held last evening. Present}— The Mayor (Mr J. 11. Laurenson), Councillors T. E. "Whitfield. A. C. Fryer, M. Laurenson, "W. .1. Lawson, A.*K. Correspondence was received from tho Fire Underwriters' Association, detailing the steps taken regarding the reduction of lire insurance rates at ,I'edclifffc. The committee of the Presbyterian Church wrote terminating the agreement for tlie hire of the Town Hall. Mr W. Hooper's application for permission to form a garden on an unformed road at Taylor's Mistake was ref used. The Public Works I>epartment wrote acknowledging application for license to erect electric wires, and asking for plans. Tile Town Clerk reported having forwarded plaits, and his action was endorsed. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote regarding the statutory provisions governing the collection of Avar funds. — IJeceived. The Petono Borough Council forwarded a copy of a resolution protesting against deductions from war pension*. —Peceivcd. On the recommendation of the "Works Committee, the gas manager was granted a month's holiday. The Works Committee reported that the formation of Duncan street was nearly completed, also that the new cylinder liner and piston for the Kedcliffs engine had been fitted, and, the plant wa.s now in good order. It was resolved that as there was every possibility of electric- power being available in J'cdcliffs within a few months. t<> procure two motors to drive the existing triple ram pump at RcdclifTj and the pump at Shag lloek. The Finance Committee submitted a plan for connecting the various offices of the Council with the telephone. .After discussion it was decided to postpone the matter.
