ANNIVERSARY DAY.
TO THE EDITOK OT "XnE PRESS." Sir, —I cannot lot the opportunity go by without asking, through the medium or your paper, for nil those people who are contemplating a picnic; or a visit to tho seaside on Carnival Day, to put it off and do their duty to the Empire, which is in such need of money and help. I think that all the bowling clubs should abandon their meetings that day, as was pointed out by a letter in your paper last week, so as to give a lead to tho genoral public, also that places of amusement should not keep open Carnival night, or. if so. they should give their takings to tho fund. If the public would only recognise will bo only asked for what they" can afford, and will be well recompensed by a brilliant display and splendid programrno of amusement, I am sure- tliey would roll up in thousands and make Canterbury's effort a supremo one.— Yours etc.. J.S.
