PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
* MISSION. HALL OPENED IN LINWOOD. In tho presence of a large attendance on Saturday afternoon, tho Rov. J. Paterson, of St. Paul's, laid the foundation stone of the new Presbyterian Mission Hall at the corner of Gloucester street and Linivood avenuo, Linwood. The hall, which, is in tho St. Paul's district, is nearly ( opinlete. Situated on a quaracre section of land, it will bo capable of seating over 350 people, and will io ready *for use early in January. The cost of construction is £667.
Mr P. Hercus, chairman of St. Paul's Church Extension Committee, said they had been asked to establish a three-fold task, viz., church services in Now Brighton, Richmond, and Linwood. A church had been built at New Brighton, and thf- work was provj ing most successful under the direction of Mr Tennant. The war Jiad interfercd with the erection of the Linwood I Church, but the prospects now were for success. As soon as the Linwood Church was completed it -was hoped to proceed with tho Richmond Church. ! Tho Rev. J. Paterson, in declaring the stone well and truly laid, said tho work at New Brighton, was now'a home charge, in the hands of ilr Bickerstaffe. and out of the hands of St. Paul's. Mr Paterson felt sure Mr Tennant would do oven better work at Linwood than at New Brighton. Tho building and furniture tvere to cost in the vicinity of £670, and a piano would be required. The section had been paid for. and a mortgage of -CoOO had been raised on the ground and building. Ho hoped the church would be opened with no further debt than the mortgapo ir.onpy. The Hon. 0. W.
