HAWARDEN A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. i
I The Executive Committee of tho Hawardeu Agricultural and Pastoral Association met on Friday evening, pne following members being present: Messrs W. C. Bridson (chairman), G. Rutherford, H. M. Anderson, F. Mason, J. Skurr, It. White, G. Gardiner T. A. Shields, J. Weld, W. White, J. Allan, W. H. Evans, and R. Allan. A motion of sympathy was passed (members standing) with the relatives of the late Mr W. O. Rutherford, who was a lifemember of the Association. On the motion of Mr G. Gardiner, the action of tho secretary in sending the Association's good wishes to Major Jordan, on his wedding day, was approved, the same to be recorded on tho minutes of the Association. Mr R. Wright moved and Mr Anderson seconded: "That the Annual Show to be held on March 31st bo an open one." This was carried unanimously. Tho schedule of events was approved, and the secretary's suggestions as to the printing of the schedules and catalogues was agreed to. The following committees were appointed:—Refreshment, Messrs G." Gardiner, H. M. Anderson, W. White, and W. H. Evans; side-shows, Messrs J. Rollo, W. Earl, junr., and W. Mather; competitions. Messrs G. Rutherford, O. Evans, and T. A. Shields. Tlie committees appointed were asked to report at the next meeting. It was decided not to allow any professional side-shows on the grounds on Show Day. Tho secretary was instructed to" apply to the Minister for permits for raffles. It was decided to submit the booth to public auction on the first sale day in February.
ASHBURTON. At the quarterly meeting of the Loyal Ashburton Lodge of Oddfellows, A1.L1., the following oiticcrs were elected:—S.G., Bro. 1. Christinas; V.G., Bro. G. Solway; E.S., Bro. F. Halliburton; also, P.G. Bros. E. Coker, li. Baker, and A. McCallum, to aid with other fficers on the 1 Management Committee.
At the monthly meeting of the Ashburton Technical School Board, the acting-chairman (Mr C. Reid) reported that the credit balance at the bank amounted to £768 6s 4d. The Director reported that the annual breakingup ocremony had been fixed for December 17th. Mr H. L. Barker wrote enclosing a cheque for £2 2s, tho amount saved by having his sheep shorn at the school, instead of at the nearest plied to his property. A hearty vote of thankß was accorded to Mr W. H. Collins for his efforts in connexion with tho protest made regarding the division of education boundaries.
Mr Ernest- E. Saee, of Ashburton, who was nominated by tho Rev. TV. J. Elliott three years ago as a eandidato for the ministry of the Methodist Church, has iurt concluded his term at the Trinity Theological and Arts College. Auckland. Mr Sago secured for theology 81 per cent, of marks, for 04 ner cent., for Chambers's -''Greek War" 90 «er cent.. j»nd for Greek Testament P 3 per cent. He won rte twr chief prizes given to the College for went, and now enters upon a very promising probationary course.
