MEETING OF COMiTITTiiE. The Lyttelton Regatta and Patriotic Carnival' Committee met on Saturday night, Mr W. C. Clcai-y presiding over a large attendance, which included representatives from tho Sumner .md Now Brighton Club?. The lit. Hon." \V. F. Masgev und Sir Joseph Ward wrote extending their patronage. and expressing satisfaction ■ that the various clubn bad decided to accept oertifi-cat-cs in lien of prize*, to enable the prizcmoncv to bo handed over to tho Canterbury Patriotic Fund. Tho secretary staged that, the financial nupport up to the present was greater than had been expected. .V large number of applications were received with reference to grunting permission to conduct flidoahovvp, U ud in most instances satisfactory arrangements were made. it was reported that an intercolonial steamer would probably be at the disposal of th© committee as a flarahip, but in. tho event of these arrangements being prevented by unforeseen circumstances, the Harbour Board had kind'v consented to allow the u3e of the dredge Canterbury for the purpose. Mr B. Rhind intimated that, with a view to assisting: the funds, the owners of the various launches at Lyttelton bad decided to give tho whole of the proceeds from the special trips to be run in the eveniser of New Year's D"t.
