DEPARTING TROOPS.
9 to tot: editor or "the rjixss." Sir, —Tho turn-out to-day at the reception to the troops from Ciallipoli goes to show that if the occasion is there, Canterbury will rise to the occasion. Some of our boys said the reception at Dunedin was very fine, but Chrisiclnirch eclipsed that. It should certainly assist recruiting.
But my real object in writing is to ask why do the authorities take away our reinforcements in the dark of the night. Why should they not go in the afternoon and our local forces be asked to parade? 1 am sure the business people of the city would elose an hour or so earlier 3ud so assist in the sendoff of our gallant boys. It is done in other cities —why not in Christchurch? Such a demonstration as we could make on these occasions would assist the efforts of those who interest themselves in recruiting.
Let us do away with tho red tape and work up some enthusiasm when next our representatives for the front are sent off. One wonders why the authorities have not before taken tho hint.—Yours, etc..
PATRIOTIC.
