The half-mile harrier on the course proper at Riccarton was in commission on Saturday morning for the juveniles, and a large number, including four from 11. J. Greenwood experienced a stroke of misfortune at AVanganui on Saturday when his maro Banksia, by Achilles—Tortulla, fell in tho Higgle Handicap, and breaking a leg, had to be destroyed Banksia did a fair amount of racing last season, starting thirteen times winning twice, being placod second once, and third twice. She began the present season in good stylo by winning the Winter Cup at th© C.J.C. Grand National Meeting, in record time. Banksia was engaged in the New Zealand Cup with 7st 81b. Verv little work was done at lliccar--ton on Saturday morning consequent on the number of horses still away at Geraldine Warstep and Snub were companions in a working gallop over a mile and a quarter on the plough, ana going st a nice even pace all through ran the distance in 2min 17 3-osec. The track mentioned is still a bit on the slo"" side, but Wisebird, who is now bowling along freely again, ran a good five furlongs, casting the journey behind in lmin 4&ee.
