NOTES. Albert H. will not bp. a starter i« the New Zealand Trotting Cup/ Fortify broke down in tlio Spring Handicap at Wanganiii on Thursday. Mr J. F. Buchanan lias sold his Martian—Everlasting filly Martigues to Mi 0. Whito of CentralOtago. Tho fields in most of the events at Geraldino yesterday were small, and Consequently no big dividends wero recorded. As" a matter of fact, no winner on either day paid a double-figure price, and in several of the races won by I hot favourites the dividends were exceedingly small. As was tho ease on tho first day, both the trotting events at Geraldino yesterday were won l>y very hot favourites, George MeKinney, tho winner of tile Domain Trot, scored'with ridiculous ease, while Gaelic was not seriously troubled in the Electric Trot, although he did not win by a very great margin. Sveaborg, who was purchased on the previous day from Mr J. R. Hart by Mr J. Biggins for £6Q, returned most of his pure huso money 'yesterday at Geraldino by running a dead-heat with Meltchikoff in the Stewards' Stakes, and afterwards securing second place in the Farewell Handicap. Our Wanganui correspondent state# thnt, heavy rain has fallen continuously since Thursday's racing, and tho today is bound to bo holding. H6rses to "whom this, state of affairs may bo of advantage are:—Aratiatia, Agatha, I Green, Nones, Lady Louisa.. J'rince ! Laddo, Snain, Seadown and Cordon, i The following i'oalings are reported from tho Kinloch Stud:—Fork Lightning, by Eager—La Fourebctte. bay filly to Martian; Intelligence, by Birkenhead—lndustry, filly to Elevation: Escapade, by Pilgrim's Progress—Escopette, filly to Treadmill; Mr lan Duncan's Purity, by The Officer—Enid, filly to Bezonian; Mr Vallance's Grecian Maid, by Cyrenian—Lady Agnes, filly to Field Battery. On the strength of his win in the Geraldino Cup, Ardenvhor was sent out favourite for the President's Handicap yesterday, but he failed to run on in tho samo style as ho had dono in his race the first day. Aerial endeavoured to win tho race from end to end. but was beaten in the run home 7>v Treadfiro. Tho winner, who was l>red by Mr J. F. Buchanan, is by tho Bill of Portland horse Treadmill from lngleby Benzoin—Fireside, therefore full sister to tho Great Easter Handi- : cap winner Fireiron. ! . The race for the Stewards' Stakes at Geraldino yesterday was spoilt by an •nnfortunate bunglo'at the start. Meltchikoff and Sveaborg went away, while Hap Dha and Moneymaker dwelt at tho post, their riders not hrlng certain that it was a start. Meltchikoff and Sveaborg quickly established a- big lead, and Hap Dha did remarkably well in finishing so close behind this pair, after losing such a lot of ground at the start. The circumstances connected with tho start were investigated by the stewards, who came to the conclusion that the occurrence was accidental.

Entries for al] events in connexion with the Patriotic Trotting Carnival close, "with the secretary, C. f\V. Hervey, 59 Cathedral square, to-day, at 8 p.m. The meeting t»oiniscs to be a great success, as already most of tho best hoirses in commission have been nominated- The Commercial Travellers arc working- very hard to help make the meeting enjoyable, and their efforts are likely to. add considerably to the- profits of tho meeting. Messrs Roper and Company have sent in a donation of £2 2s towards the funds. Caher Davon followed up his first day's success by winning the Second Hurdles Handicap at Gcraldino yesterday in good style. Ho made most of the running, and though Kingsway headed him before the last hurdle was reached, tho Glenapp gelding finished well, and won by ar fencth and a half. Caher Davon is a half-brother to Kelbum, the winner of the Now Zealand [St. Lcger in 1903, and to Multiply, who has shown very good form during the ! past couplo of seasons. Lady Augusta, tho dam of Caher Davon, comes from a very noted family, being by St. Lcger from Brown Alice, by Xordenfelt— Onida, by Yattendon. Tho stallion Solferino, imported by Mr J. F. Reid, of Burnside, Oamaru, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday, and Tfras.bronght up to Hayward's Chester street stables in tho course of the forenoon. Solferino is a bay with black points, a horse of good siae. with "great length and liberty, excellent bone, and beautiful temper. The horso shows a lot of quality, and -when ho has been a few weeks at Burnside will bo a most attractive looking stallion. At the present time Solferino in rather light in condition as a result of his two months sojourn on the Rimutaka. Altogether the; successor to Rokeby is a remarkably fine horso. Solferino, wlk> is n_ member of the Bruce Lowo family. Number 4, \» By Soliman 3 from Little Red jjpinner, by Bonnet Rougo 1 from Little Twin by Tortitts 9.
