THE COURTS.
« MAGISTERIAL. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. For having been found drunk, five male first offenders were each fined os, and one raalo first offender, who had been in custody since the previous day, was convicted and discharged. A first offender, charged with having been drunk on*the railway station, was remanded till Saturday. BREACH OF PROBATION. For having committed a breach of tho conditions on which ho had been released on probation, Joseph Nicholls was sentenced to-seven days' imprisonment. ALLEGED THEFT. Harry Carlson, for whont Mr A. T. Donnelly appeared, was chargod with having, on the 11th inst.. stolen 10s in money, tho'property of George Edgar. A remand till the 18th was granted. Bail was allowed, self in £20 and ono surety of similar amount. ALLEGED IDLE PERSON. James Kinnebrook, an old man. was remanded till the 18th on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, Senior Sergeant Mathieson explaining that there were other charges to be enquired iato. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment for plaintiff was given by default, with costs, in tho following eases: —A. L. Gray and Co. (Mr Taylor) v. H. "\V. Cater, claim £3 145.: J. H. "Wilton (Mr Goodman) v. J. H. Cairns, claim £42 9s 3d. COOK r. O'CONNOR. Herbert Henry Cook, trading as H. H. Cook and Co. (Mr MacDougall) v. Thomas Frederick O'Connor and Bridget O'Connor, claim £97 10s. Defendant conducted his own ease. After hearing evidence, judgment was given for plaintiff for tho amount claimed. A.SHBURTON. (Before Messrs W. W. "Whit® and G. W. Andrews, J.P.'e.) Frank Allan, charged witli breaking and entering the store of W. J. S. McDowell, at Hinds, and stealing goods to the value of £23 9s, was committed for trial at the Supremo Court in Timaru.
