The Works Committee recommended I that the application of Mr A. D. l'ater- ! son to lay a sewer )>i;>o under tho j Cliff road. Scarborough, into tho sea, ; bo, approved, and that a double row j of pines be planted on the south-west j side of Scarborough Park, and two enclosures, one nnd a half by one chain, be made and the shrubs on tho hill bo transplanted there, the estimated cost being £10.—Adopted. It was decided that >■ the grazing rights of Scarborough Park granted to Mr Langdale bo withdrawn. The Town Clerk rooorted that during the past month building permits to tho value of £G"0 W1 b"ou issued, making a total of £7272 since April Ist last, as compared with £'6604 for the same period last year. The secretary of the Poor of Great Britain, Ireland, nnd Belgium Relief Fund wrote asking if the Council intended to provide its monthly quota of £(3 lis 2d. It was dee'ded to leave the matter in tho hands of the Mayor and Town Clerk to report at nest meetinz. Mr Frank Gill forwnrding the consent to the owners of lots 1 to 7 inclusive, on Mulgan's subdivision, to transfer the land confined in the right-of-way. Month's Bay to Alexandra terrace, to the Council as a reserve. It was aeroed to refer tho matter to the Council's solicitors for advice. _ The secretary of the Veterans' Association wroto_ soliciting the assistance of the Council in the effort to raise | funds for the Veterans' Homo and Belief Fund.—Received. j Superintendent Carter, of the Fire ! Brigade, waited nn the Council and submitted designs of ri shield to be presented to tho Canterbury Fire Brigades' Association, and asked the Council for financial assistance. Tt was decided to voto tho sum of £5 ss. _ A sob-committee consisting of Councillor Whitfield nnd the Mayor was appointed to visit and report upon tho best means of clearing or improving tho ground near the creek outlet. Councillor Paterson reported, on behalf of the sub-comwitfon nanointed to inspect the Snmner-Lyttelton road, that the upper portion wns badly graded, and could b« remedied at "a cost of about £45. tV + a corner should be altered to Knit wheeled traffic. It was decided to have a written report forwarded to the Works Coromiitteo. At tho conclusion of the business, tho Mayor made re fore nre to the mooting to he held in the Town Hall this evening in connexion with the T>oolnration Pay ceremony. Ho invited all the councillors to take part in the procession through the borough.
ISAIA POT. At the meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council last night there were present —Tho 'Mayor (Mr J. H. JJlackwell), Crs. "W. Doublednv, S. Rinaldi, J. Brydcn. T. R. Leithead, li. 11. Croft, 11. C. RorelL L. B. Erans, H. Mcintosh, and .T. W. Crawshaw. Tho New Zealand Acetylene Gas Company forwarded particulars of shipments of carbide. nnd tho increase in freight rates. —Received. The Patriotic Committee's invitation to attend to-night's demonstration was accepted. The Fire Prevention Committee reported that it had no recommendation to mako in regard to the-Firo Brigade's application for 250 fech of r.ew hose.—Received.. Tho Reserves Committee recommend--ed that alternative tenders he invited for the lease of tho old fire station site. —AdoptcJ. Tho financial statement was as follows: —Receipts £12 13s lid, expenditure £300 5s Gd, overdraft at bank £11(37 19a Id. Tho Works Committee v.as authorised to'proceed with tho asphalting of the footpath in Cass street from Cookson street and Jones street, and instructed to report on the condition of tho Cam bridge, which is said to be sinking. Sitting as a Domain Board, it was reported that 1"0 trees and shrubs had been planted in the park, nnd that tho right sido of the main ontrance would be planted at once. It was decided to trim unsightly trees.
