Messrs J. B. Merrett and Co. had a large entry, all of which were sold at satisfactory prices. Tho dcmund for Grand National week is good, and prices this year are equal__to last. Table chickons 4s 6d to 86 7d, hens 2s to 5s Bd, pullets 3s to 9s 6d, ducks 5s to 8s 4d. geeso 8s to Vs, turkeys (gobblers) Is to 3ls, turkeys (hens) 7s to 133. all per pair. Messrs A. B. EGG MARKET. The egg market shows a falling tendency, but prices are sligntly bettor than last year. Canterbury Egg Cirelo first grades realised Is sd, seconds la 4d, stores Is 3d to Is 4d per dozen. TATTERSALL'S HORSE BAZAAit. Messrs H. Matson and Co. had a small entry of 28 horses on Saturday. Buyers were more numerous than sellers" and every useful farm horso was keenly competed for, realising, in most cases, considerably over owners' reserves. At present there is a really genuine demand for horses ready to go i straight into work. Among the principal sales were: —On account of Mr "W. Bridson (Woodgrove), eix-year-old mare, £33: on account H. J. Moon (Christchurch), four-year-old pony, £10; on account G. Stewart (Ellesmere), aged pe'ding £22; on account Wiggins Bros. (Woolston), eight-year-old" mare. £23; on account Hororata client, eiglit-ycnr-old gelding. £26 10s, five-year-old gelding £25 Aged geldings sold at £11, £11 10s, and up to £15 10s, and old harness horses at tho usual modest figures. ASHBURTON MARKET. The paucity of business between grower and merchant stilt continues, and tracle is in a dormant condition. Farmers, where they olfcr produce, do not meet with response from merchants on tho basis of late prices, and in many cases elect to hold on and await events. Quotations: — Wheat—Values are nominally unchanged. Oats —The market is very quiet, and merchants report very small coastal trade from Canterbury, tho demand being chiefly supplied from tho South, where tower Yalues rule. In tho absence of any transactions of moment, the nominal value of A Gartons may he given as 4s on trucks. ChafT —Tho demand is much quieter, and buyers' ideas of values show considerable variance, but about' £7 10s on trucks for prime quality is now tho highest offer on trucks at favourable stations. The blockage of 6himncnt of straw chaff to Australia is affecting the position.
