Iron Duke, "Juno 6th, 1915. "Doar Mr Mackenzie,—Your presence at the annual meeting of the Britisn and Foreign Sailors' Society on May 10th is mv excuse ior tnis letter. "I cannot but feel a great interest in tho work of tho Society, seeing what great servico is being performed tor tne Empiro by tho officers and men of ! the mercantile marine during the present war, and I know quite well that \ your efforts wero largely responsible tor adding a considerable sum of money to the funds of tho Society. "I feel it a great honour to write to you as representing New Zealand as tho recent work of the New Zca anders in the Gallipoli Peninsula, and their magnificent courage and tenacity, has filled us with feelinge of th e deepest admiration. . "You may bo interested to learn that Captain Halsey, of the New Zealand, is about to join my staff. I feel lam depriving the 'gift ship of a most valuable officer, but I hope, and believe, that his successor will maintain tho high standard of efficiency of the ship.—Yours very truly, "Signed) J.
