The fund will benefit to the i extent of £5. At two previous matches 3 £18 18s was raised for the Red Cross _ Fund. f On Tuesday night tho members of the Rangiora Methodist Church entertained Mrs Mctherall, an old and enthusiastic worker of the church, who is leaving i for North Loburn. On behalf of the consecration the Rev. W. Wills presented the guest "of the evening wiih an armchair. KAIAPOI. The thirtieth annual meeting of the 1 Kaiapoi Working Men's Club was held last night. The report and balancesheet were received and adopted. The following officers wero elected:—President. Mr R. Sewell; • vice-presidents, Mr A. J. Russell; trustees, Messrs W. Simpson, A. Johnson, and T. P. Mably; committee. Messrs W. Ellis. N. Green, J. Brown, J. J. Murchie. J. Richardson, W. Taifce. H. Bent. W. Poole, T. Keatley. and G. B. Rowe; treasurer, Mr A. H; Hunt; secretary. Mr R. H. Croft.. The club members and visitors were afterwards entertained at the annual Sam Weller "swarry," Mr R-. Sewell presiding. The following toasts were honoured:—"TheKing and Royal Family," "Success to Club and Founders." "Kindred Clubs," "Boys at the Front," 'and "President, Offi- . cers, and Committee." Messrs A. BELFAST. ' A social was held in the Belfast Town |. Hall on Tuesday evening, in aid of the I Vicarage Loan Interest Fund. There , was a largo attendance. Music was supplied by Mrs Curnow, and Mr T. Morton acted as M.C. During the evening a number of songs were contributed. ! BEALEYFLAT. The 6ocial and dance in aid of the school funds was very successful. Music' ' was supplied by Mrs Saxon, Miss Kealy, Messrs Neale and Thomas. During the course of the .evening items were ; given by Mrs Davis, Misses Kealy, Robson, Harris. Cameron, and the school children. Supper was provided by the ladies. At a. meeting of the Arthur's Pass .School Committee there were present: Messrs McPherson (chairman), Brake, Rogers and Thomas. Mr Semple's resignation was received. Correspondence was received from the Education Board concerning the medical inspection of the school. The headmaster's report showed an: average attendance of 47.5 for the last quarter. The application of the headmaster for several minor repairg to the' school and to dwellinghouse was received and granted; also a requisition for hand bowls and towels for the school. It was decided that the Education Board be approached for a couple of Association footballs for tho children. The chairman reported having made arrangements for the cartage of shingle for the school ground. ' ■; i KIRWEE. , A "hard-up" social was held on Tues- 1 day evening for patriotic purposes, and , proved successful in every way, over | two hundred people being present. The i proceedings commenced with a proces- j sion, which started at the railway sta- \ tion, and.marched to the Agricultural Hall in the show grounds, led by pipers. ] Hero a motley crowd, dressed in bags, ( rags, and tatters, had a most enjoyable _ time, dancing, singing, etc., until about \ ten o'clock, when a mock court was , held, and quite a large number of those { present wee* arrested on various t charges. All the charges were taken , humorously, and the fines paid prompt- c ly. Supper was announced at this stage, and proved quite a feature of T the evening. A four-wheeled pie-cart v wa« brought into the centre of the hall, c and hot boiled potatoes, saveloys, and v sandwiches handed round. Afte r sup- t per dancing was indulged in until about ± three o'clock. During the evening Mr j It. Kennedy took up a collection in aid, j if the wounded soldiers, over £5 being + subscribed. Songs were contributed by Miss Hartstonge, Messrs J. Stockdon. _ Lan Syme, and W. H. Conway, and a \ recitation by Sir W. E. McKay, and an Irish jig by Mr M. Coffey. Music for * the dance was supplied by Miss Syme, j -Miss N..Johnson, and Messrs S. Dunn, W. Syme, and W. McKay. It is estimated that the proceeds from the effort will be well over £20. HINDS. There was an excellent attendance at thc annual meeting-of the Hinds Presbyterian Church on Tueeday evening. * Tho chair was occupied by the Rev. J. Mills, of Flemington. The chairman gave a stirring address on "The I Joy of the Lord." The Home Missionary, Mr J. Bishop, in his address, 6how- fa ed the church to be in a healthy, rigor- i otis condition, as 24 new members had been added during tho year. The con- S gregations had been good, and he had £ done the nsual visiting. The Sunday i school could be improved. Bible classes were held in all centres, as well as spe- » cial harvest thanksgiving services. The £ balance-sheet showed a credit of £36. x Votes of thanks to the organist, Sunday school teachers, and retiring committee, C were carried. The old committee, with j: the addition of Messrs D. Shaw and Geo. McKeage, were elected. It was Ie decided, on tho motion of Mr Shaw, to v ' procure a roll of honour for th© church.
