Tho fact thai flour has been reduced another 10s pef ton, and is now quoted at £16, has naturally tended to make the tono of tho-wheat market easier. There ig nothing doing in oats, and oatsheaf chaff is in rather less demand, while there is no enquiry for oat-straw cJiaff. Tho potato market is quiet, and buyers aro now offering only £5 10s to *£5 los, but growers are still holding firmly. There 'is little enquiry from th© North Island, and th© Auckland market is said to be still well supplied with potatoes from the Wellington province. There is little demand for shipment to Australia, as there is still a large quantity in store, sufficient it is said to supply shipments at the present rate until the end of August. At tiie Coalgate market yesterday, the yarding totalled 2190. only 40 beinj--in the fat pens—all ewes. The stores consisted of 124'i0 lionets, 840 crossbred ewes in lamb, and 50 wethers. The bulk of the entry was of a poor class and low in condition. There was a moderate attendance, hut bidding was lacking of spirit, and the greater portion of the entry was passed at auction. Prices , were:—Fat cw,os 17s to 28s (kl, two-tooth crossbred ewes in lamb 21s 6cl, mixed ages (ditto) los to JS S 3d, failing-mouth (ditto) 14s 6d, cull (ditto! 6s 3d, potters 5s 3d, wether hoggets 8s to 8-*-Bd. ewe hopgets (small) lis 8d to 13s Gd, a lino of 130 from Mr Godfrey Hall 10s Id. A five-year-old'half-draught gelding brought £29, an aged draught gelding £25, and medinin half- ■ draught mares and geldings brought from £8 to £17 10s. TIMARU GRAIN MARKET. (SPKCIAL TO "THE TRESS.") TIMARU, July 23. Business is comparatively qitiet on tho local grain market. A few lines of wheat aro offering, but vory few are soiling. Holders generally are asking 7 a per bushel, but in view of the fact that tho Primo Minister's option over a million bushels of Canadian wheat does not expire until the end of this month, buyers are inclined to hold off, as if this option is ta_en advantage of, it will affect the price of locally-grown wheat. The lowering of th© price ot" bread and flour has also mado the wheat market a little easier. A line of Tuscan was sold in Timaru yesterday nt Cs 6d - on' trucks, but this cannot bo taken as a criterion of values generally. The oafc market is very dull locally, as most of tho business in this cereal is being done from Dunedin. There has come a sudden cessation in tho shipment of chaff to Australia, and values have dropped accordingly. This i-j attributed to two facts: (1) Insufficient care in sending aivay only chaff of good quality, and (2) the fact that Australia has got from America largo quantities of oaten hay. which is very much better than New Zealand wheat and straw chaff. Tho potato market, is not quite-so firm ns it was. To-day's quotation is £G par ton* on trucks country stations. SKIN SALE. (PK-SS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) ■OAMARU, July 23. A very successful salo of sheepskins, . wool, etc., Vivas held to-day, when a large catalogue, comprising six thousand sheepskins and. seventy bales and , 250 bags of wool, was submitted.
