SHORTAGE OF PRINTING PAPER.
SHIPMENT FROM CANADA. MR MASSEY'S GOOD OFFICES. (PRESS ASSOCIATION* TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, July 23. The Prime Minister has received tho following cablegram from tho Minister of Trade and Commerce at Ottawa.— "Shipping company is taking 445 tons paper per Karamea for Now Zealand. Will do best. Possible thereafter service Jikeiv to continue." Mr Massey is: contmu.ng nis efforts to ensure regular supplies of paper, lot which a serious shortage is threatened. Tho ordinary requirements of the newspapers of "New Zealand in the way of printing paper for tho months of May, June and J"lv wre 3000 tons. Including the shipment mentioned in thc message, to Mr Massey. the total amount despatched from Canada during that period is about 111- tons, so that the usual supply ior tho throe months is still about IPOO tons short.
