HOW LIEUT. RICHARDSON DIED.

Buildings, Auckland, .j| ;"=■; contained in a letter written by iieo- .' tenant J. P. Bodley, of the same Com*. '' ■ pany. Lieutenant Bodley writes:—"" Bert Richardson was badly wotmdeii during our advance on the first-day of ■ ' our landing, and died from his wounds. {£* I was separated from him earlier in the ;V day, and was not with him when he was .-v hit, but got tip details from his men. ■ Bert was behind tho trench tying the wounds of one of his men when ha' V was hit on tho back and -very badly ' , wounded. Hβ was game and cheer- ■ f ul, although he know that he was badly i _.- wounded, and told the men not.to ~< bother about him, but to keep on firing. •_,' It was impossible to get stretcher- „' bearers up to him, but an Australian ".- doctor did all that was possible for him althoujjh he said there wbs bo hope, saw him before he was buried, and ho ' just'looked as though he was asleep. -. Although he. had only been with our Company two ©r three days he was . greatly liked by his men, who were extremely cut up over his death, as were , all who knew him.
