BURYING THE DEAD.
THE TURKS "PLAY THE GAME."
(hfzciai. to "the peess.") WELLINGTON, July 23. In a letter to a Wellington resident, Lieutenant-Colonel W. Meldrum. O.C. the Wellington Mounted Rifles Regiment, says:— The day before we came out *here was a nine hours' armistice to bury the dead. Lines of our mon and the Turks, with white nags, were posted half-way between the opposing trenches. Bimal parties from each force then came out with picks and shovels and stretchers, and each side cleared the ground up to the midway line. There vrae no treachery: they played the game just as our men did, and it was not till after time was up and all were back m their trenches that firing was renewed. ' — —" !
