WAR FUNDS AND THEIR ADMINISTRATION.
TO THB EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." gj rj — i d 0 not know if it has occurred to many that great sums of money aro being 'collected in various parts of tJio country, and that there is in many cafcee very little organisation about the pending of it. While concerts arid fairs were being hold for Belgium, Poor of Britain, or Patriotic Funds, the money was remitted to an Executive Committee, who could be trusted to enquire the best methods of spending it. But now, with Red Cross Societies in all parts of the Dominion, a great deal of money is being collected which doe* not come to any Executive Committee. The work done by the ladies in all parts of the country is' in many ways excellent, but very largo sums of 'money are being collected, much more in some cases than can reasonably be worked up by the different smaL , Societies. People are -willingly giving In many cases more than they can afford, and do not mind so lone as they ere sure that it is spent as needed. It seems to mo that this is a tur-o for money to be husbanded and mana"ed by 'tho ba»t business heads, not left to* the varying intelligence business ability of the ladies who run the small Societies. The more of tins money thai could bo sent to somo Executive Committee the.better, or I fear wo shall later on have cause to rue tho carelessness of this expenditure. — Yours, etc., ECONOMY.
