HAGLEY PARK TRACKS.
TO THS EDITOR OJ" "THE TRESS." Sir, —One of tbo pleasures in living in Riccarton is tho rido to and from tho city through Hagley Park. Xowhere in this country is there a rido to be 'compared " with it, and it is surely not necessary for tho "powers' that be" to take this pleaenre away. Up till this week we havo had, a good track from tho Bolt,- which has had a good deal to do -with making the ride what it is. Now, however, we aro met with one of these too numerous boards: "Bicycles prohibited.' . It ivould do some of the Board good to go and have a look at the new "track," which has been constructed apparently for tho destruction of bicycle tyres. It is, indeed, verily a "rocky road to Dublin." First the ground was ploughed, then metalled, coated with clay, and top-dressed with fine metal liko broken glass, rolled, and to complete the performance, heavy traffic with drays and horses turned the surface into holes and deep ruts The whole affair looks as if the makers thereof had deigns on all the .tyres that pass this way. As fully 60 tier cent, of our res-.donts ride bicycles I really think we are entitled to a little consideration.— Yo " r p p £ v to «ri N:o Lower. Riccarton, .Inly 20th.
