FOOTBALLERS ASSISTANCE.

The question as to what stops Rugby Union lootballcrs should take to assist Lancaster Park was discussed last night by the Management Committee of tho Canterbury Jlugby Union. A letter was received from Mr H. B. Gould, secretary of , the Lancaster Park Board <j( Control, on tho matter. In it, ho said: — "So far promises rer.-oived total £13-17 Gs, and us theso are practically all spout a neon s contributions, 1 think tho outlook is very hopeful. As avc have, however, set ourselves out to save- the ground for tho benefit of those. who participate in tho different amateur sports, I think the public will expect those .actually engaged in such sports to do their littlo hit in every ■way, no matter how small it may bo, and I would respectfully suggest that your committee immediately organise a thorough canvas?, amongst all those actually engaged in your particular branch' of sport, and secure any nmounts that can bp possibly given, as tho question sure to bo asked is: 'What are the footballers and cricketers doing themselves towards san'ng\ho park?" It was decided to ask tho affiliated clubs to call meetings of their members to consider tho raising of funds on behalf of .the park, tho clubs to report to tho Union within ten days. Tt was also resolved to 'ivrito to tho Otngo lUigby Union asking if tho Ota go 'Varsity team could comq to Chmtchuvcb and play a match against a local senior team on behalf of the park, and failing the 'Varsity team, some other ecnior team. Exception was taken to certain statements alleged to reflect* upon tho Union made by an Association football delegate at the meeting of tho Citizens' Committee last Monday, and tho president (Mr F. T. Evans) was instructed to write to tho president of tho Canterbury Football Association on the subject.
