THE WANGANUI IN FLOOD.

There has been heavy and continuous rain over the whole district for the last forty-«ight hours, which has brought down the biggest flood since the record of 1901. The rain has stopped now. Throughout the day the current was running twelve mites an hour, and carrying a large amount of debris, including dead stock. At Pipiriki the river rose 'fifty feet, and at Wanganni town .bridge reached within 2} feet of the record flood lev.el of 1904. Several localities in the neighbourhood of the town are inundated, but co far minor damage only has been reported. "Water invaded Taupo Quay, surrounded the Wanganuiand Union Rowing sheds, and flooded cellars in various places. The residents in one house near-by were compelled to remove their furniture. Owners of boats and launches had an anxious time, one \ntincb. foundering near tho town wharf. The rivor steamship service is interrupted. At 7 p.m. reports from , iip-country state that the river ie still rising.
