THE BELGIUM FUND.
LOCAL BODIES' CONTRIBUTIONS. A letter h.*s been received by Mr R. Evane, chairman of the Kangiora County Council, from the Under-Secretory of Internal Affaire, stating that the JBritain and Belgium Relief Fund would be approved for the purposes of the War Contributions Validation Act, and when the Governor's approval vri{/ obtained local bodice might legally contribute to the fund. DARFIELD. A meeting of the Darfi>ld Executivo of the Belgium Fund was held on Monday evening lo consider the request made by the/ Malvern County Council that the district should contribute its quota (£5 per month) of the amount promised by the Council to the Central Executive. It was decided that an effort ehonJd be made to raise thie (ram by voluntary contributions until tho end of the county financial year (March 31st next), when '_ a. special rate, can be etruck to meet it. Circulars are to bo sent to the residents of Dar-fie-ld. Kimberley. and Racecourse Hill, asking each to contribute five shilling's (or such amount aa they think fit) per month, for ten months, cither in a lump cum or in instalments. Messrs P. Morrison and H. Valentine were authorised to open a savings bank account for the fund. It wa* not considered advisable to promote any public entertainments owincr to tho Patriotic Carnival to be held in September.
