Private George Webster, formerly of tho "Gisborue Times-'' staff, has been transferred to the General Headquarters Staff of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, to take m> a position in tho printing section. Word hsu been received that Mr Joseph Wilfrid White, an old boy of Christ's College, and son of Mr Kinross Whitu. of Napier, joined the motortransport section of the Royal Naval Air Service in charge of one of its best nwtor-cars which he drove,. down to Southampton from Txmdon. He obtained his commission in less than a week after lie gave his name in at tho War Office, and was in France on Jun«y 3rd, under eight weeks after leaving New Zealand. [ The death has occurred, at Palmerston North, of an ex-Canterbury resident, Mrs Ellen Mouldey, at the age of 79 years. The deceased lady was born in County Tippcrary, Ireland, arid with her parents emigrated to Victoria, where she met her husband, and witb him came to New Zealand and settled in North Canterbury, residing there for twenty years. ,Mr and Mrs Mouldey went to Palmerston North twenty-fivo ] j years ago., and had lived there continuously ever since. Mrs Mouldey is j survived by her husband and a grown- j ur> family of nine sons and daughters. Quite a number of graduates of the University of New Zealand are going to the front as members of the Expeditionary Fores. Many have already l?ft; others are on the way, and other s again are in training in the various camps in Now Zealand. In the 7th Infantry Reinforcements at Waikanne alone, no fewer than eight graduates figure as officers and nou-eoiiimissicned officers. ,In A Company there are Captain Herman. L.L.8., 2nd Lieutenant Taylor, M.A. and Senior 8.A.. of Auckland: iv B Company. ' Lieutenant A. B. Sievwricrht. LL.B.. Sergeants Gerald Fell, LL.B.. and G. M.A.. all of Victoria College, Wellington; in C Company, Lioutenant Merton, LL.B of Canterbury College, in D Company, L'cuienant C. Smith. M.A., Otaco. The Officers* Training Corps, established in connexion with th« New Zea l and University Colleses, is stated to bo largely responsive for tho military spirit and efficiency of these officers.
